It has been way too long since we have updated our blog! It has been a GREAT month!
We had three horse shows, a trail ride, a visit to Robinettes, and started back at Roanoke!
We are excited to welcome four new members to our team this year They started the year with a bang on a- I can’t believe I am saying this- very hot day at the GVSU hosted show at Kentree Stables. The team came home with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, & 6th.
The next weekend, Western Michigan hosted at Mystic Marsh on a cold, very windy day! Ah Michigan Weather. Once again the team had respectable rides, and a fun day getting to know each other in all our down time.
Finally, the last weekend of October, the team headed to Bay City for the Saginaw Valley Show at Sunshine Farms. I think this is the year of extremes. Show 1: Extremely hot, Show 2: Extremely windy, Show 3: Extremely muddy. This was a disappointing week for everyone but a good learning experience. I am proud of the team and how they support and encouragement each other even on bad days.
Besides the showing, we have been able to get out roanoke three weekends this month and are looking forward to being able to go more regularly when the show season slows down in a few weeks.
Michigan grows wonderful apples and we are privileged to have Robinettes Apple Orchard not far from campus! On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, a group of us got lost in the corn maze, devoured delicious donuts and cider, and were lulled into relaxation as we enjoyed a horse drawn hay ride around the orchard.
Finishing out the month, we had our semi-annual advising break volunteering and trail ride at Cran-Hill Ranch in Big Rapids, MI. 17 students cleared trails in a down pour, warmed up and dried off a bit over lunch then the rain stopped just long enough to enjoy a wonderful fall ride. If that doesn’t rejuvenate you, you shouldn’t be around horses!
So that is a VERY quick run down of Equestrian Club fun in October!

I wanted to let y’all know about a great opportunity to hang out with fellow horse friends. This Sunday the 16th we will be heading out to Robinette’s to do a horse-drawn hay ride and a corn maze. We will meet at 2:30 by the ATM in the Student Development Office. We will then head out to Robinette’s to enjoy the day and hang out. There will be a five dollars cost for attending this event. Hello Equestrian Friends,
I have the great honor to let you know about a great upcoming event. This weekend October 1 we will be leaving from the Commons annex at 9:30 to start our first saturday volunteering. Get Pumped! This saturday is going to be special too as we are going to help with a fundraiser that Roanoke Ranch is putting on in Ada, MI. The fundraiser will benefit the ranch and they are charging 3$ a ride on a horse, so that means they need plenty of hands to help lead the horses also with everything else. This will be a great opportunity to get to know Kat and also get to know the horses at the ranch. We will then continue every Saturday at the same time and have a great time. If you do have a car I do ask that you bring your keys just in case and also that you send me a quick email just to letting letting me know if you plan on coming so I can plan. If you forget no worries still come!!! I am so excited for this awesome time and I looking forward to getting to know y’all a bit better. See you Saturday!!

We have two events coming up this weekend. The first is the Friesian Keuring at the Ionia fairgrounds. We will be leaving campus at 1:30 on Friday and returning early evening.
The second event is a pizza party at Kentree Stables. Any Calvin student thinking about showing this year is strongly encouraged to come. We will be meeting at the ATM in the Commons Annex at 3:45. You will meet our coach Kris, have a short lesson, and see the stable while meeting your new teammates!
Friday, Sept. 9, twelve people piled in vehicles for a trek down to Allegan, MI. It was a beautiful late summer night, beautiful horses, and beautiful cowboys… probably shouldn’t call cowboys beautiful should I… athletic, talented, competitive… pick your adjective. Thank you to all who came out! We look forward to seeing you at other events in the future!

Hello equestrian friends!
I am very excited for a new year with the equestrian club. We already have exciting plans in the works!
* Cokes and Clubs is this week Tuesday! Come out and say hi some time between 5:00 and 6:30.
* Thursday night at 9:30 we will be having an informational meeting. If you are interested in showing this year, please come to the meeting!
* Friday night Rodeo at the Allegan County Fair. The club will pay for your admission you only need to bring money if you want food.

1. Friesian Connection Open House: There is an additional opportunity related to this! Janice and the family are asking for help shining up their horses before the open house. If you are interested in helping, please let me know! They are offering to make a donation to the team in exchange for our help.
